Lucas Gassel

Outside of the Gallery, facing the main part of the library are the works of Gassel.

Nine years younger than Albretch Durer, Lucas Gassel, of Belgium was making a name for himself as a painter and a deeply intellectual humanist. He often brought a sense of expansion into unknown worlds of recent discovery to his landscape painting. The prints in our collection highlight his more religious work, done in the easily replicated and distributed medium of etching.
